TROUBLESHOOTING PROCEDURES (Continued)
MALFUNCTION
TEST OR INSPECTION
CORRECTIVE ACTION
1.
SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER WITH NO BLACK SMOKE
Step 1.
Check that stop control lever is at full RUN position.
a.
Adjust stop control cable (refer to TM 5-1940-277-20).
b.
If stop lever properly positioned go to step 2.
Step 2.
Visually inspect the nylon fuel lines for kinking, sharp bends or some type of internal or external
restriction (refer to TM 5-1940-277-20).

If no fuel line restrictions are found go to step 3.
Step 3.
Check for air in fuel line or leaking fuel line connections. (Refer to TM 5-1920-277-20).

If no air or leak in fuel line go to step 4.
Step 4.
Make sure engine stop control is pulled out. Test for fuel lift pump operation (refer to TM 5-
1940-277-20).

If fuel flow satisfactory go to step 4.
Step 5.
Check for faulty injectors.
a.
Test injectors (refer to page 2-26).
b.
Repair faulty injectors (refer to page 2-267). If injectors operate properly go to step 6.
Step 6.
Make sure engine stop control is pushed in. Test for injector pump operation (refer to TM 5-
1940-277-20).
a.
Replace injection pump (refer to page 2-245).
b.
If pump operates correctly contact supervisor.
