Deburr the edges.

Cut a patch of the same material as the hull and
size as the hole.

Cut another rectangular plate whose length and
width exceed that of patch plate by at least 4
in.
e.
Center the patch plate on the larger plate.
f.
Drill a row of holes (size depends on rivet
diameter) approximately 1 in from the edge of the
patch plate and through both plates (spacing must
be not less than 3 times the rivet diameter or
more than 24 times the thickness of both plates).
g.
Rivet the two plates together.
h.
Position the prepared patch in the hole in the
hull with the oversize plate on the inside of the
hull.
i.
Drill a row of holes approximately 1 in in from
the edge of the backing (oversize) plate through
the backing plate and hull plate (spacing as in
step f).
j.
Remove the prepared patch and coat the area of
the backing plate that contacts the hull plate
with a waterproof sealant.
k.
Position the patch and rivet in place.
NOTE
If there is a question about the fit of the patch the
seam could be closed by a light weld.
CLEANING, PAINTING

NOTE
The surface must be prepared before painting can be
undertaken. The primary preparation consists of a
thorough cleaning. Degreasing is not sufficient.
