TM 5-5420-278-24&P0042 000042 00-2INNER PONTON AND OUTER PONTON SEPARATION (Contd)SEPARATING INNER PONTONS1.Using transporter or suitable lifting device and IRB hoisting gear, raise bay (1), position dunnageunder inner pontons (2), and lower bay (1) on dunnage.NOTEEnsure the two long chains of IRB hoisting gear are connected tothe load receiving pins so pontons will hang level duringseparation.2.Attach lifting device and IRB hoisting gear to outer ponton load receiving pins (19) on outerpontons (3), and take up slack.3.Remove two cotter pins (4) and washers (5) and pin (16), from cover (18) and shaft of bellcrank (12).Discard cotter pins (4).4.Remove two locknuts (7), screws (9), and connecting links (17) and cover (18) from inner pontonbrackets (8). Discard locknuts (7).5.Remove locknut (15) and screw (6) from front collar (14), drive shaft of bellcrank (12) forward, andremove collar (14). Discard locknut (15).NOTENote location and quantity of shims for installation.6.Remove bellcrank (12) from inner ponton hinges (11) and (13), and remove shims (10).7.Repeat steps 1 through 6 to remove bellcrank (12) from opposite end.WARNINGAll personnel must stand clear during lifting operations. Ensureponton foldlocks and travel latch are in good mechanical conditionand securely locked prior to lifting bay. Failure to comply mayresult in damage to equipment or injury to personnel.8.Open two travel latches and lift and separate inner pontons (2) using lifting device.9.Set inner ponton (2) down with roadway deck resting on dunnage.
