TM 5-5420-278-100043 000043 00-2CONVENTIONAL RAFTING PROCEDURE (Contd)NOTEPerform steps d through o to operate raft assembly. The near shore ramp bay should be let downadditionally and pressed to the shore prior to loadingvehicles on raft assembly.d. Lower ramp bay (2) at near shore to ground by opening both pump accesscovers (3) and setting control valve levers (1) to DOWN position. Once loweredto ground, pump each pump 12 times (25 times if using only one pump).e. Set both control valve levers (1) to TRANSPORT/CROSSING position andclose pump access covers (3).f. Lower two ramp plates (4) on ramp bay (2) as necessary.WARNINGAll traffic must be loaded to center of the raft assemblyand no traffic will be positioned on either ramp bayduring rafting operations. Failure to comply may resultin damage to equipment or possible injury or death topersonnel.CAUTIONFailure to set both pump control valve levers in theTRANSPORT/CROSSING position prior to loading trafficmay result in damage to ramp bay pumps and cylinders.Ensure both BEBs push raft assembly against shoreduring loading and offloading of traffic or damage toequipment may result.NOTERafting operations in a river crossing with more thanone raft assembly using same loading and unloadingsites will follow a figure 8 pattern.g. Refer to WP 0042 00, table 1, and WP 0043 00, table 1, and check raftassembly loading capacities, then load traffic on raft assembly.h. Raise end and secure two ramp plates (4) on ramp bay (2) if used.i. At far shore end of raft assembly, open both pump access covers (3), setcontrol valve levers (1) to UP position, and operate pumps to raise ramp bay (2) to desired height. Close both access covers (3).j. At near shore end of raft assembly, open both pump access covers (3), setcontrol valve levers (1) to UP position, and operate pumps to raise ramp bayto desired position. Close both access covers (3).
