There are four handrail stanchions and two ropes oneach ramp bay, and six handrail stanchions and two ropes on eachinterior bay.Handrail stanchions and ropes can be accessed with bay eitherfolded or unfolded.REMOVALNOTEPerform steps 1 and 2 to remove rope only. Perform steps 3through 7 to remove handrail stanchion only.1.Position all handrail stanchions (1) in the upright position (TM 5-5420-278-10), and note length ofrope (3) from fairlead blocks (4) to hook end of rope (3).2.Remove screws (5) and (6), two fairlead blocks (4), and rope (3) from each handrail bracket (2) onhandrail stanchions (1). 3.Unhook handrail stanchion (1) from stowed position on outer ponton (14), lift and place handrailstanchion (1) in upright position between brackets (12).4.Remove locknut (11), washer (10), and bolt (13) from brackets (12), handrail stanchion (1), slot (15), and spring (9). Discard locknut (11).5.Remove handrail stanchion (1) from brackets (12).6.Remove locknut (7), washer (8), screw (16), washer (17), and spring (9) from handrail stanchion (1).Discard locknut (7).7.Perform steps 1 through 6 to remove remaining rope or handrail stanchions.
