TM 5-5420-278-24&P0052 000052 00-4HANDRAIL REPLACEMENT (Contd)INSTALLATIONNOTEApply a light coat of grease between brackets and to bottom ofhandrail stanchion at installation.Perform steps 1 through 5 to install handrail stanchion only.Perform steps 6 and 7 to install rope only.1.Slide spring (4) inside of handrail stanchion (1).2.Align hook of spring (4) with holes on handrail stanchion (1), and install spring (4), washer (12), screw (11), washer (3), and new locknut (2) on handrail stanchion (1).3.Place in stowed position on outer ponton (9) (TM 5-5420-278-10).4.Install handrail stanchion (1) and spring (4) on brackets (7) with slot (10) aligned with holes in brackets (7).5.Align hook of spring (4) with holes in brackets (7), and install bolt (8) on brackets (7) and spring (4)with washer (5) and new locknut (6). Do not over tighten locknut (6).6.Install rope (14) on each handrail bracket (13) with two fairlead blocks (15), screw (16), and screw(17). Do not tighten screws (16) and (17).7.Adjust length of rope (14) from end to stanchion (1) as noted during removal. Tighten screws (16)and (17) on each handrail stanchion (1).8.Perform steps 1 through 7 to install remaining handrail stanchions or rope.
