DISCONNECT BATTERY GROUND STRAPS (Sheet 1 of 1)
TOOLS:
9/16 in. socket with 1/2 in. drive
5 in. extension with 1/2 in. drive
SUPPLIES:
Rag, wiping (Item 65, Appendix D)
Rubber gloves (Item 69, Appendix D)
Goggles )Item 70, Appendix D)
Remove all jewelry such as rings, watches, dog tags,
bracelets, etc. If jewelry or disonnected battery ground
cable contacts battery terminal, a direct short can result,
causing instant heating of jewelry and tools, severe injury to
personnel, or damage to equipment.
B a t t e r y acid (electrolyte) is extremely harmful.
Always
wear safety goggles and rubber gloves, and don't smoke
while servicing batteries. Severe injury will result if acid
contacts eyes or skin.
CAUTION
As each cable is removed, cover cable with rags to prevent
contact with floor or battery box, which may cause arcing.
DISCONNECT:
Using socket with extension, remove three screws and six washers (A) securing three ground
straps (B) to hull wall.
CONNECT:
1.
Remove cloth from each cable (B) and place in position.
2.
Using socket with extension, install three screws and washers (A) securing cables (B) to
hull floor.
