8.4 PERIODIC CHECKS
Winch Rope
8.4.1.1
Once a year the winch rope will be subject to inspection. This can be best achieved
by building a beam as described in Chapter 4, Section II, paragraphs 4.3. through
4.7.3.4.
8.4.1.2
Inspection of the winch rope will entail looking for kinks, crush damage, excessive
stretching and broken strands. Refer to 8.4.2.
Discard Criteria for Winch Rope
The rope should be discarded if a maximum of five broken wires per 5 1/2 inches

(140mm) of rope length is found. (See Figure 8. 2).
8.4.2.2
The rope should be discarded if the nominal rope diameter is found to be less than
0.55 in (14 mm). (See Figure 8. 1).
